The holidays are a stressful time of year for many, with family commitments, work, shopping, and even (small group) entertaining. For financial advisors, December can be all of this and more. Your clients may be reaching out more often in December to make sure their financials are in order for the year ahead, or maybe they are thinking ahead to some major life events coming in the new year. While you may be pulled in several directions during a regular December holiday season, COVID-19 stands to pose even more challenges this year, especially when coupled with social isolation and the added stress of lost income. Operating during any holiday season is tough, but it is even harder during a global pandemic Check out the checklist below to help you navigate the end-of-year rush.
Holiday cards – If you send holiday cards, get them completed early and personalize them as much as possible. Make sure to send the cards at least one week before the target delivery date.
- Office and client gifts – Due to the pandemic, you may need to send gifts to staff or clients through the mail or electronically. If you are sending gifts through the mail, organize them at least two weeks ahead of time and mail them one week before the target delivery date.
- Communicate your holiday schedule to clients – Considering taking off some time to spend with family and friends? Let clients know what days you will and won’t be in the office, and who they may contact if they need assistance during your time off, in order to set expectations.
- Create opportunities to see clients – Some clients will be uncomfortable with face-to-face meetings during the pandemic, but virtual video calls are also very effective in communicating with and wishing your clients a happy holiday.
- Review and tweak your 2021 business plan – COVID-19 has upended “business as usual” this year. It is more important than ever to update your 2021 business plan. Will you operate remotely or return to the office in full? During this planning period, think about the lessons you learned in 2020 and decide which of them you decide to carry over into 2021.
As 2020 comes to a close, we wish you much success in the new year. Happy Holidays from our family to yours.
